At 16:00 sharp, Michael initiates the final shutdown sequence of the VARiS/Vision servers (called s10iro-varis and s10iro-vision).  

 

A typical upgrade weekend is about to begin, starting with the “usual dumps” of the database. Fortunately, we also got new server hardware (DELL PowerEdge) as replacement for our 5 year old Compaq servers. The old servers would be too slow for the database conversion, neither have enough RAM nor disk space. They served us since the Generation 6 upgrade in Nov 2001.
