Friday: Tamara Goei and Joachim Gerstner from Varian Medical Systems explain to everybody of our team the new features of ARIA. There are no patient treatments today, because of the upgrade running.

The biggest change in ARIA is the Field Unification: there are no planning fields any more. Now there is really only one type of “Field” (well, there is still a “Setup Field”, but this is only a flag set).

It takes a while to visualize all the consequences: plan modifications, initiated anywhere in the system (on the linac, in RT Chart, in Eclipse, ...) can be immediately recalculated in Eclipse. There is no separation between the Plan as it exists in the Treatment Planning System (Eclipse) and the Plan in the “Verification System” (a terminology which has no real meaning in ARIA). No more export or import necessary.
